Why Andhra Pradesh Land Titling Act sparked a political firestorm in the state…

Katasani Rambhupal Reddy

Former Panyam MLA and YCP leader Katasani Rambhupal Reddy has criticized the Land Titling Act, attributing it to the recent political losses faced by the YCP. Speaking to the media on Sunday, Reddy expressed his opposition to the law, stating that he had previously advised Chief Minister Jagan against implementing it. According to Katasani, the act has incited fear among farmers, who worry about the potential seizure of their lands. He recounted how this concern was a recurring theme during door-to-door campaigns, where constituents expressed their Fears about the law.

Katasani pointed out that the TDP capitalized on these fears, presenting the Land Titling Act as a significant threat to farmers’ property rights. This narrative, he claimed, reversed voter sentiment in the crucial days leading up to the polling, leading to a shift in support from YCP to TDP. He mentioned that farmers, motivated by the fear of land Seizure, voted masse for the TDP, convinced that a YCP victory would threaten their land ownership.

In addition to the Land Titling Act, Reddy cited other factors contributing to YCP’s defeat, including issues related to the sand policy and the activities of goons and laborers, which created unrest in towns. He also mentioned that even alcoholics were Influenced by TDP’s promise to provide quality liquor at lower prices. Reddy criticized YCP’s failure to implement policies like free RTC bus travel for women and a substantial loan waiver for farmers, proposals he had advised for but which were ignored.

Reddy acknowledged that the TDP’s Super Six schemes resonated strongly with the electorate, leading to YCP’s downfall. Reflecting on the election results, he highlighted that it was not the opposition that defeated YCP but rather the party’s own missteps and failure to heed critical advice.
